Here is our April 2011 update
The ministries are doing good, with the exception of Belen, I went home to California for a family emergency in March, so we put Belen on hold but we will start up again this coming Saturday. Jose covered for me in El Terminal while I was gone.
Jose continues to go to Panguana and Centro Fuerte, and I am back in the saddle at El Terminal. Lydia, Gabriella & Veronica are doing a great job with children's church at El Terminal and Lydia often accompanies Jose on the rivers and does Children's Church there also.
The bad news, as many of you know, is that Raul, our worship leader and almost Assistant Pastor at El Terminal was arrested in March. He was held here in Iquitos for nine days then sent to Ayacucho, a city in the Andes of Peru, where the incident occured. It seems that his name was used somehow, and we are now in the process of trying to prove his innocence. The sad news is that their baby was just born, and Raul was arrested four days after Mathais was born.
We know that Raul has been here in Iquitos since at least December of 2007, so we sent notorized statements to that effect, and that he has been working with us since 2008. But those statements don't have as much weight as if he would have had a regular job with a pay-stub proving that he was here during that time. Please pray that Raul will be released soon.
As you can imagine Raul's family is going through a hard time right now, Luz-Mila, his wife and four children need about $60 a week for food. Plus the Lawyer in Ayacucho thinks that the legal fees will be about 8000 soles, which is about $2900. So we are asking If anyone would like to help Raul and his family out they can send funds to:
Friends of CCBC, Peru (CCBC = Calvary Chapel Bible College, Peru) 1771 E. Palomar Street Chula Vista, CA 91913 Memo: "Peru, Iquitos - Raul"
Raul and Luz-Mila were married by the state, but they had never had a church wedding, so we had a wedding at the church in El Terminal last October, here are some pictures of the wedding. They had three children at that time, Ena, Tatiana & Obed.

The waters are really high right now, they say this is the higest in about 10 years. There is no land to step when you go to Panguana, the edge is flooded and you have to wear shorts, the boat drops you off in the water. You wade in the water until you get to the canoe that takes you into the village.
If you would like to contribute to any of the following ministries\expenses:
Friends of CCBC, Peru (CCBC = Calvary Chapel Bible College, Peru) 1771 E. Palomar Street Chula Vista, CA 91913 Memo: "Iquitos - XXX"
(Where XXX = Ministry House, River Ministry, General Fund, Children's Ministry, etc...)
Support is down, I am just starting to be affected by the economy in the States.
*Note: The dollar is currently 2.78 or 278 soles for every $100 (U.S.).
Thank you all for your prayers and financial support. and God Bless Albert Smith
